Rachel Kirkup, a volunteer with the swim program for the last 3 years, received the Paul Bray Memorial Student Volunteer Award, through the Fonthill Kinsmen. She was given $1000 to donate to the non-for-profit organization of her choice, and she choose Brock Niagara Penguins!
This is incredible news for Rachel and wonderful news for the program, going towards financial assistance of athlete registration fees. Best of luck at Western next year!

We have 3 dates for the summer ! (If a conference gets booked we will get bumped). All in Gym 2 from 5pm -7pm . Start telling athletes now, they are free sessions with some warm-up drills and games for the majority of the time. A great chance to recruit new players from the community.

To all athletes who use the back doors by the tennis courts. During the summer months they will be doing major construction at these doors. Once the construction begins, the accessible entrance will have to be the front of the Walker Complex, Facilities Management is working on sidewalk cuts, and a drop-off area. Also, the Zone door to the elevator will be either open, or have a handle so it can be more easily accessed. Please keep this in mind when coming to the University this summer for our wheelchair basketball dates
On Wednesday April 8th, the 4 sport wheelchairs purchased with the United Way Innovation Grant arrived. Thanks to Motion Specialties St. Catharines – who helped get the chairs specfically set up to meet the needs of our athletes!
Cogeco covered the United Way cheque presentation. To see the 5 minute clip that was aired on The Source, please contact us, we can email it directly to you.
As of April 1, 2009 Brock Niagara Penguins can be contacted via email using niagarapenguins@brocku.ca !

Looking forward to a spring of excitment in the pool and gym!
Congratulations to Alias, James and Madison who attended the early morning swim meet at Brock. Madison has improved so much with her backstroke, with a time of 1:24:22. James and Alias deserve a pat on the back with breaking the 1 minute hurdle during the freestyle event (52.0 and 56.4)
Later that morning, Sarah, Jim, Loretta, Jon and Ned travelled to Oakville to compete in the D-level Ontario Wheelchair Sports basketball tournament. They each played on different teams, to gain new skills, learn from different coaches and meet various players. It was a very successful day and we all look forward to the next tournament.
